Good for authentic learning

Solid instructional text, however it covers immersion style teaching through content rather than a focus on memorising vocabulary. I am currently studying in preparation for further study abroad in Japan and have found this to be a helpful resource. I would also recommend most Japanese texts by the Japan Times as they are often reliable, flexible and practical.

About the Author
Mireille Delmas-Marty is Professor at the Coll�ge de France, where she holds the Chair in Comparative Legal Studies and the Internationalisation of Law. Her publications include Pour un droit commun (1994; published as Towards a Truly Common Law by CUP, 2001), Trois d�fis pour un droit mondial (1998) and Le Relatif et l'Universel (2004). She is also editor of Droit p�nal des affaires (4th edition 2000).

J. R. Spencer is a Fellow of Selwyn College and Professor of Law at the University of Cambridge. His publications include Jackson's Machinery of Justice (8th edition 1989), The Evidence of Children: the Law and the Psychology (2nd edition 1993) and La proc�dure p�nale anglaise (1998). He was also part of the international team of lawyers which produced the EU Corpus Juris project, proposing a unified European law for the prosecution of offences of fraud against the Community budget. As well, he was a consultant to Lord Justice Robin Auld's review of the Criminal Courts.

After landing, the text warns: Your first step will be difficult. You will rise in the air and leap forward like a kangaroo, but once you learn how, walking will be fun. It also suggests that the moon's lack of sound and color may make it seem like a dream. After viewing the flag left behind by astronauts, it's time to depart. As Earth looms closer, a four-page foldout in a glorious burst of color marks our planet's contrast to the moon's black-and-white shades. These pages depict a variety of wonders: all sorts of animals and landscapes as well as people from different historical periods and locales. The narrative notes, Air and water are Earth's special blessings. We must guard them well. The final pages show the boy returning home. Rich artwork complements the strong text. Kellogg's generous splashes of bright hues in the Earth and shipboard scenes juxtaposed with the somber moonscapes set the appropriate moods. As in her earlier How to Dig a Hole to the Other Side of the World (1979), illustrated by Marc Simont, McNulty offers another mock travel manual for children undertaking a spectacularly improbable journey. In a matter-of-fact, second-person voice, she describes trip preparations, what to expect en route and after disembarking (the tour includes a visit to Apollo 11's landing site), and the thrill of homecoming. The tousle-headed boy cast as readers' surrogate is a vintage Kellogg character, but the artist shows his more experimental side elsewhere with tie-dye-vibrant backdrops, boldly graphic compositional choices, and areas of thickly applied paint to re-create a craggy lunar surface. Whimsical details throughout, whether visual (a cameo by Kellogg and his dog Pinkerton) or textual (beverages in space must be in squeeze bags, lest one produce an "orange juice fog"), will sustain children's interest through meditative reflections on the moonscape's eerie poetry of "silence and stillness." A dramatic four-page foldout celebrating "Earth's special blessings," air and water, marks a safe landing as well as a return to Kellogg's bread-and-butter style--a riotous watercolor panorama teeming with people, animals, and green, growing things. Cute Little Tale

I originally bought this book on Amazon for my four-year-old son. I don't know if I didn't read the suggested ages of the book, or the recommended ages were even listed. However, this book was not written for preschool children. It was well written and can be enjoyed by primary grade students on any given day. I tried reading it to my young son a couple of different times. While he liked parts of the story, it really was too long for him, and he lost his desire or ability to concentrate until the end of the book. Faith McNuffy is truly an original writer, with the ability to have a child's imagination. Although my son won't sit through the entire book as of now, I will be sure to keep this book in our collection of books until he gets just a little bit older.

Occasionally Awkward

The descriptions are neat. I enjoyed a few of the details and learned something new myself. Stephen Kellogg's illustrations are wonderful as usual. The descriptions were wonderful but at times it feels like the author's name should be "Incredibly concerned parent about child actually going to space". A few lines of it were awkward and seemed like scare tactics to not want to go. The end was weird too. The whole book is about going to the moon and the last page about loving the earth and the things that live on it. Which is a wonderful message but it felt out of place considering the moon was always going to be a visit throughout the book and suddenly it was like, "But you don't want to live there".

I bought this book as a gift for my 3 year old cousin who is very much into space. The book may be a little to mature for her just yet but I know it is something she can grow with and will love even more as she gets older. I am so impressed with the illustrations and the vivid colors in this book. I had it sitting on my kitchen counter before wrapping it and my husband saw it and was really excited about it, thinking that I got it for our daughter. Well I plan to buy another copy for her very soon. It's worth the price!

Tim O'Rourke has done it AGAIN!!!

Once again Tim O'Rourke has blown me away. What can I say about this author that I haven't said a hundred times before? It really is no surprise that publishers are starting to take notice, the man is a genius. Probably a little crazy, definitely a bit evil, but a master at what he does.

Moonbeam is B2 in the Moon trilogy & we pick up right where B1 leaves off. I really can't say too much because, in typical O'Rourke fashion, there are soooo many twists & surprises it will leave your head spinning. It's an experience you really just have to go into blind to live the full effect. All I can really say is, Winnie & Thad are on the run. We get a peek into Thad's past & Winnie's future is irrevocably altered. I know that is all very vague but, anything else I say would just spoil the story & that is something I simply cannot do.

Nothing is off limits with this author, just because a character dies in the past does not mean their story is over. That is what makes these stories so freakin intense, no two books are alike & you really never know what direction it's gonna take or what will happen next. Trust no one, never EVER think you have it all figured out-you WILL be wrong. It's impossible to stop reading, there is no slowing down. Bloody, gritty, creepy-it's the stuff of nightmares. And something else I've come to expect is his last minute twists. This book was no different. The last freaking sentence left me dumb, mouth on the floor, screaming WTF, when does the next book come out?!??!

I've been following O'Rourke for over a year now, read countless books by him & he STILL manages to shock & surprise me. For someone who reads as much as I do, that's an almost impossible task, but he still does it. Every. Single. Time. I cannot sing my praises loudly or often enough, I'm definitely a fan for life!!

This second book in this series really had some unexpected twists and turns. It was an amazing journey. Tim O'Rourke has developed these characters so well. I've read all of his books and he still has me guessing what will happen at each turn. What an amazing read!!

When will they ever let us give more than 5 stars??? Holy crap! MOONBEAM really sealed the deal on how much I love this series. Now, it's no Kiera Hudson or Black Hill Farm novel but it is super close. Twists, turns, laughs, cringes. Tim gives it all! I loved reading about Thad's past and was so creeped out by Ruby Little. *shutter* Another amazing book from an amazing author. I cannot wait for book three!! Too bad Tim can't clone himself so we can get books faster ;) Just kidding Tim...or am I...

Not Just What to Do but How

This book stands out in the following ways:

--It goes beyond trends, beyond the next superfood, for example, to "evergreen keys" which are timeless in their healthy effects
--it tells you not just what to change but how to make the change
--it gives you the right foods to eat, but also the practices that go with it, meaning how to make the mental shifts that will help you change
--instead of talking about the relationship between the mind vs. body, it goes from outside (body) to inside (core self) and how these layers are integrated
--it helps you find your "unique starting point," the right place to start, based on where your habits and lifestyle currently are.
--it helps you deal with setbacks
--how to deal with lack of time and money to make the changes
--using exercise as "ambition fuel" and not just a prerequisite for a healthy body
--writing, visualization, relaxation, meditation: how they can work for you
--finally, you're encouraged to sometimes "go beyond," to sometimes imagine meeting goals and intentions that are outside your current scope of practice, not only as inspiration, but to help shift your thinking

This is a book that can really help you get closer to your dream self and maybe even expand your idea of what that dream self can actually be. Can't recommend it enough.

Complete Mind Body Soul Insights and Practices

This book looks at all areas of health - beyond just the physical elements. Tova has extensive knowledge about food and the impact that eating has on your body and energy - it is like an encyclopedia where you can access all the information that you need about healthy eating.
Beyond that however, she takes it further and examines how our minds and mental programming affect our health.
Most importantly there are action steps and exercises that you can apply to change the way that you current body, mind and soul are showing up in the world and create a balanced interaction between all three.
This is complete healing from the inside out and highly recommended for anyone wishing to transform their health, energy and enjoyment of life.

Great Book!

I've read many books on nutrition and weigh loss over the years and must say that I think this one is great! I can relate to the authors straightforward and no-nonsense approach, and I appreciate the fact that it is a quick read. The message is simple, eat foods that make you feel good, eliminate foods that make you feel bad. Although this seems like an obvious message, I feel that this book sets itself apart by acknowledging that many people have emotional limitations that interfere with their ability to make better eating decisions. The book contains tips on how to deal with your overall state of well-being, and information about how certain ailments can be worsened or improved depending on which foods you are eating. All in all, I thought that this book was very practical and well-written: )

Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) TEST CHANGES:

The SHSAT is changing! If you are taking the Fall 2017 SHSAT Exam, you should be aware of the following changes so you can properly prepare for the exam. The old SHSAT test comprised of two sections: verbal and math. The verbal section included five scrambled paragraphs, followed by ten logical reasoning questions followed by 5 reading comprehension passages. The math section included 50 multiple choice questions. The time limit for the exam was 150 minutes.

So... what are the new changes you should be aware of?

• The new time limit for the SHSAT exam is now 180 minutes. (30 minutes more than the old SHSAT exam)

• NO MORE SCRAMBLED PARAGRAPHS.

• NO MORE LOGICAL REASONING QUESTIONS.

• Verbal section is renamed to the English Language Arts (ELA) section.

• There are 57 questions per section and only 47 out of 57 questions in each section will be scored. 10 questions are field test items which will not count toward the students score.

• The ELA section will include 20 revising and editing questions along with 6 reading passages.

• The math section will include 5 grid-in questions

• All multiple choice questions will have 4 answer choices instead of 5.

I purchased the first edition of the book in September and my daughter received admission into Stuyvesant High School for Fall of 2016. I am writing this review for two reasons.
1)My daughter found the practice exams in this book to be very useful and we are excited for her to start Stuyvesant High School.
2)Her brother will be taking the exam next year, and we just purchased the second edition and I have to say I am very happy in what they are offering. My son wants to attend Bronx Science because he is interested in one of their programs. Evidently, Argo Brothers offers free live test support, so I decided to fill out their form on the website regarding a few questions my son needed further help in, and I received a call from Michael, who is a tutor for this company literally within 20 minutes, and he guided my son through those questions. I must say I am very impressed they have this support feature.
If you’re preparing for the specialized high school exam, this book is a no brainer, hands down one of the best books to use to prepare for the shsat exam. I hope my son will be able to score high enough for Bronx Science, I had him start early because this exam is very intensive.  I would also recommend using the live support feature, if anyone has any difficulties on a problem.

This book is great for its price

This book is great for its price. My brother has been using this book and I can tell he is becoming far more confident than he was just a few months ago. This is certainly not an easy test to do well on! The practice questions in this book are great; actually some of the questions really make you think. If you want a mix of realistic practice exams get this book and probably the Kaplan’s. Barron’s book is way too easy and is not realistic on the level of difficulty.
