To treat such a powerful function like this I find hard to believe

I found this book very disappointing. It is certainly not up to the standards of previous editions. As an example it lists the Sumproduct function on page 164 & then given a very brief mention on page 192 (this last page is not shown in the index). To treat such a powerful function like this I find hard to believe. I have been advised that the book is disjointed & doesn't cover some of the new functions in Excel 2016.

Mintzberg provides a complete framework to support the reflection and comprehension on how networks of external and internal inffluence take place in organization general decision systems. The main players in and around the organizational scenario are analysed and grouped according to their general interests. There results a comprehensive cartography of the games these players and respective interests play in the construction of organization objectives, structures and strategies. Organizations are then classified, according to the way power is distributed among different players, into cathegories or "power configurantions". The discussion on the environment and on the nature of the decision system for each of the configurations is rich and produce valuable insights for those who leave inside and among organizations of varios kinds. The book is particularly useful for those who deal with very complex organizations, helps understanding organizational changes, the possibility of success in change inniciatives and programmes and also provides useful information on the issue of social control of organizational behaviour.

A lush, cautionary tale of a life of vileness and deception or a loving portrait of the aesthetic impulse run rampant? Why not both? After Basil Hallward paints a beautiful, young man's portrait, his subject's frivolous wish that the picture change and he remain the same comes true. Dorian Gray's picture grows aged and corrupt while he continues to appear fresh and innocent. After he kills a young woman, "as surely as if I had cut her little throat with a knife," Dorian Gray is surprised to find no difference in his vision or surroundings. "The roses are not less lovely for all that. The birds sing just as happily in my garden."

As Hallward tries to make sense of his creation, his epigram-happy friend Lord Henry Wotton encourages Dorian in his sensual quest with any number of Wildean paradoxes, including the delightful "When we are happy we are always good, but when we are good we are not always happy." But despite its many languorous pleasures, The Picture of Dorian Gray is an imperfect work. Compared to the two (voyeuristic) older men, Dorian is a bore, and his search for ever new sensations far less fun than the novel's drawing-room discussions. Even more oddly, the moral message of the novel contradicts many of Wilde's supposed aims, not least "no artist has ethical sympathies. An ethical sympathy in an artist is an unpardonable mannerism of style." Nonetheless, the glamour boy gets his just deserts. And Wilde, defending Dorian Gray, had it both ways: "All excess, as well as all renunciation, brings its own punishment."

Grade 10 Up-"The Whole Story" format provides illustrations and annotations to the classic text. Ross's lively and sophisticated cartoons add interest, and historical information helps readers place the novel in proper context and gives insight into its characters. The problem with this attractive, glossy layout, however, is that the text and the quotes pulled from it are not always on the same page. Further, some illustrations and notations visually cut into the narrative and may distract readers. For example, a drawing appears on the first page along with the passage, "In the centre of the room, clamped to an upright easel, stood the full-length portrait of a young man of extraordinary personal beauty," but that quote does not appear until the second page of the story. Useful as a supplement to the original novel, but not a replacement for it.

Be careful of your wishes.

A dark story, narrated excellantly with changing voices for ths different characters. A painter friend convinces the extremely handsome, Dorian, to pose for him. The painting turns out so well Dorian wants to keep it. He makes a wish that he would always be so handsome and only the painting show his aging and scars of life. His wish is granted and you should follow the outcome of his life.

Not for people with short attention spans

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this book. I wanted to read this book so I can say I read at least one 'classic' as an adult. While I can at least say that, I found myself bored and my attention span drifting with the extended prose.

Although the book is less than 300 pages, it took me a while to complete it, perhaps due to some archaic vocabulary and extensive prose (which can bore me). That said, the novel was edited well, leaving out unnecessary details in a way that the reader could imagine what happened in the character's life without it being actually being written.

Wilde's writing is truly exquisite, and it's a shame he only wrote the one novel. While reading, I could fully envision the society and the people living in it (to the point of having strong feelings about some!).

Trust me, I really wanted to LOVE this book. And while I can appreciate this novel as a classic, I only liked it. The story was certainly quite creative and risque (for the time), which I enjoyed. I just wish it were a bit more amped-up.

In summary, if you want to read something more fast-paced, I wouldn't recommend this book. If you are a more "refined" reader, I think you have a better chance of truly enjoying it. Also, if you never had to read this in school, it�€™s worth reading it now.

A classic I am glad to have read

I'm not sure what my expectations were having never read but only watched various versions of Dorian Gray in shows, none of which were accurately faithful to the book. I could see how this would have been considered too risque for audiences at the time it was first published, which makes it an interesting note on how much society has changed. The book was slow moving for about the first 40% of the book and did not even move Dorian's story along. It was almost entirely about Lord Henry Wotton and a bit about Dorian, then when it did change perspectives to Dorian it still took a bit to get to the picture's importance. A good portion of the second half of the book was a litany of the "things" that Dorian would obsess over. To be honest I would skim over these and it was fine because all the detail was not necessary. Not a bad book but not a great read either. Simply a provocative book for an era long gone.

Baker's Encyclopedia of the Bible

This book is a must have for any Theology major. I recommend it for anyone who likes to dig deeper into the Bible as well. It came in handy for more than one paper in my Theology classes. It was easy to find the subject I was looking for and gave easy to read information.

Handy and Helpful

Good non-technical encyclopedia. Easy to read. Trusted known scholars. Could be stronger with more documentation. I have a Biblical Studies degree and bought these for my son who is becoming more of a student of the Bible without college studies. I bought original edition (1997) in four volumes for myself years ago. This current edition is handier in a two-volume edition. This may be the best "lay person" Biblical encyclopedia resource that I know. I recommend these to anyone wanting to have a handy help for understanding the Bible.

About the Author

Dr. Michelle Rudek received her BS in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh and her dual Pharm.D., Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in a joint clinical pharmacology/oncology program with the National Cancer Institute.� Dr. Rudek joined Johns Hopkins University in 2001 and is currently an Associate Professor of Oncology and Director of the Analytical Pharmacology Core Laboratory.� Her research program is focused on clinical pharmacology with a focus on early phase drug development and special populations including AIDS malignancy and organ dysfunction.

Dr. Cindy H. Chau received her BS in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UCLA and her Pharm.D. and Ph.D. (in Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology) dual degrees from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) predoctoral fellow.� She was the recipient of the NIH National Research Service Award.� Dr. Chau completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH, joining the National Cancer Institute in 2004 and is currently a research scientist within the Medical Oncology Branch, Center for Cancer Research.

Dr. William Douglas Figg received his B.S. (Hon) from Georgetown College, his B.S. in Pharmacy from Samford University and his Pharm.D. from Auburn University.� He completed his clinical pharmacy internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital and his fellowship in drug development at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.� Dr. Figg also received an M.B.A. degree from a combined program at Columbia University and London Business School.� He joined the Medical Oncology Branch, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in 1992. He has patented more than 80 new anticancer agents and four pharmacogenetic tests.

Dr. Howard McLeod is Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor and Director, UNC Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.� Dr. McLeod holds appointments in the UNC Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences, and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.� Dr McLeod is chair of the NHGRI eMERGE network external scientific panel and is a member of the FDA committee on Clinical Pharmacology.� He is a member of the NIH NHGRI Advisory Council.� Since 2002, Dr. McLeod has been vice chair for Pharmacogenomics for the NCI clinical trials cooperative group CALGB/ALLIANCE, overseeing the largest oncology pharmacogenomics portfolio in the world.
