Handbook for Museums is an excellent source for both the inexperienced and the veteran. The book covers a wide range of topics, from artifact conservation to ethics. I found the information contained to be of great help to my budding museum career.
The book is written simply and concepts are easily grasped. As a bonus, each chapter includes a 'Questions from the Field' section, in which FAQs about subjects relating to the chapter are answered. In short, Edson and Dean stick to facts and keep it simple.
Due to large field of subjects covered, do not expect a technical dissertation in each chapter. This may not bode well with some people, however I feel the information contained applies to all skill levels and positions in the museum field.
'Handbook for Museums' is an excellent read; it's great for both classroom study or working reference. Definitely a 'Thumbs Up'!

The best Winogrand collection, but maybe not $200 better

The work really is great, and does a marvelous job of evoking this era. He could even write--the grant proposal that got him the money for this (included) is perhaps the best, most concise, most haunting proposal I've ever seen.

Very puzzling why some of these images took 40 years to be published. Here's hoping there's some more magic hiding in his immense trove of mostly-unseen work.

But as good as this is, if you're new to Winogrand "The Man in the Crowd" is nearly as good for a couple hundred less.

One of Gary's best books

I recently bought this book, new, on Amazone for $119! Thanks Amazon! I have checked this book out from the library several times and find it one of his best books. Every time I page through it I feel the urge to grab my Leica and do some street photography. If you can only have one of his books this is the one.

Stirring Images of the Seemingly Mundane

It is likely that some of the moments captured here were experienced by many of of us in our normal lives through the sixties. The haunting pictures of roadside motels, through-car window shots to the visually stunning cover make this book a must buy for anyone who appreciates photographs which turn the seemingly mundane into moments of laughter and beauty. Off beat shots combined with striking imagery make this a beautiful collection of photos to own.

About the Author
A Ph D from IIT Bombay, Subrata Ghoshal is currently Professor in the Embedded System Design Department of IIIT, Pune. He has over 20 years of teaching experience at reputed institutes of higher education in India, including BITS (Pilani), STCET (Kolkata), and SMIT (Sikkim). He has authored two books and has to his credit several technical papers published in India and abroad. Best DIY on embedded systems

I am assuming you have some college degree and very fundamental knowledge on electronics.
If you want to become an embedded programming guru under a month, BUY THIS BOOK !!!

I am a mechanical engineer and have little to no experience in electronics. I have spent over 600 hundreds dollars buying books on embedded systems since I have limited knowledge on electronics. I needed a comprehensive DIY book with step by step guide to take me from beginner status to advance expert.

After many months of searching amazon & ebay, I stumbled upon this book. It had no reviews but I decided to try my luck.
This book was an angel sent from above. My co-workers wondered why I learnt so fast. (** I never told them the secret but it was this book)

Many of the books I bought on embedded systems; "Embedded Systems building blocks" - Jean Labrosse and "Embedded Systems Primer" - David Simon, were a bit advanced for me. You need some level of experience and expertise to leverage the benefits of the aforementioned books.
But Subrata Ghoshals book fills in the patches and transforms you from an Idiot to an embedded system expert.

A piece of advise to any one that reads my review:
Ghoshals book has hands on projects from hardware planning and design to software development. Each Chapter has a distinct project and increases in sophistication as you go deeper into the book. So my advice is, take a note of all the parts you need from each chapter and purchase them all at once. That will increase your speed of learning substantially and after 30 days, you'll definitely come thank me for this review !

Good resource.

I'm working on my Master's in Nursing. I'm not into theory quite frankly, so I don't use this book for 'reading' I use it for resource and for trying to understand Orem's theory. For all you nursing students like me, that have to take Theory, and have difficulties getting a grasp on the various theories, this book is an excellent and reasonable priced book to help you. I have used the book several times already for presentations and will be keeping it after I get done with my non-thesis project, as a reference book. For you theory loving folks, this book is a must have.

If you struggle to define "what is a nurse", use this book to help you bring a firm foundation to your practice. Ms. Orem (1914-2007) clarified her thoughts on the essentials of Nursing with this book over 6 editions. While there are many who define Nursing from Nightingale, Orem expands, defines and provides a framework of the how, what, where, when and most importantly, why, of the relationship that a modern nurse has with those in their care. Her words are relevant in today's world for they provide some clarity to the term "meaningful use". Likewise for those nurses that struggle with today's understanding of the electronic health record, appendix A will assist you to hone your skills to ask the right questions rather than " just filling in a box". For those who are building today's healthcare, this is the "roots" we need to go back to as a part of the "do over".

For those considering a nursing as a second career - Chapter 15 and appendix B will provide you insight of the Nursing profession.

While a nursing textbook is not for everyone, for those that are caring for an elder, Chapter 9 and appendix C will give coping skills to deal with the day to day challenges you face. Appendix A will help you focus your answers to the any health care provider questions in the rushed environment of the doctors office, urgent care clinic, the emergency department and when a hospital trip looms. Understanding "all those questions they ask you" ahead of time will help you maintain some control in a space where you don't have control. Likewise, this book provides a basic knowledge for when things don't go as expected and gives you the understanding to keep those you care for safe.

Unfortunately, this book has not been released in electronic form and to find it in pristine condition is a rare find. It took 2 attempts through Amazon to find it at the price and condition that I wished for. I would urge the publisher and those that now hold the publishing rights to this book to bring a Kindle or Google Play (or both) version into being to allow this book to become a ready reference for those that participate in today's healthcare.

Tibetan Buddhism is considered the esoteric wing of Buddhism; this slice shows some layers of its complexity while whetting the spiritual appetite for more understanding, or what Buddhists would call the intention for enlightenment.

If all human minds were seeds of flowers, the Dalai Lama is the Sun.

With a background in World Religion, an avid meditator, and hobby philosopher, this book actually answered some profound issues I had and did so with concise clarity. My brother for almost a decade has been stuck in the "Everything passes and is therefore meaningless" nihilistic state that has now turned into clinical depression. He wasn't the first to point this out to me and for years I have struggled with questions about death and purpose.

His Holiness Dalai Lama has elegantly answered the question Nihilism proposes, by stating that only co-dependent entities can perform any function. In this, he uses "function" rather than "purpose" although the two are effectively exchangeable. Please read the book to further understand what I mean.

This book has affected me deeply primarily because I did not expect to get this type of information from this book. The subtitle, although cheesy at the onset of reading "How to live a meaningful life", is precisely accurate and the book successfully performs it's described function. I know how to live a meaningful life now. And no, existence is not meaningless, purposeless, or useless. It is precisely meaningful, purposeful, and useful, and now I know why thanks to this book.

If all human minds were seeds of flowers, the Dalai Lama is the Sun.

Succinct and clear, written in kindness... Because His Holiness practices and lives the teachings, he delivers them with humility. He readily admits his own struggles early in his study and this is refreshing. It seems he is meeting us where we are and offering a better way of being in the world. I love this way of teaching, for it is like someone who comes alongside of us and walks a while with us, sharing insight and their own experience. Thank you, Teacher.

Received the book yesterday and I love it! Not really that much more to say. It is well written, beautifully illustrated,
and jam packed with information. The quality of the book itself, size, paper and the design makes for an incredible presentation.

I'm most likely going to order another copy of it for myself. This way I have one copy to look nice on the shelf,
and another copy to highlight, underline and make notes in.

If you love essential oils, or know someone that does, treat yourself and / or them to a copy of this book. It makes a beautiful
addition to an essential oils library or a lovely gift. If you are new to essential oils, make this your first purchase, and learn from one of the best.

Why is James Patterson Still Allowed to Write Teenagers

I'm not sure what I expected from this book but it was enough to be instantly disappointed and irritated when I opened it. I wasn't even two pages in and I was irritated with how self-centered Max has become, the lack of explanation for absolutely everything, and why Dylan was still necessary to the plot (spoiler: he never was). James Patterson's style hasn't evolved at all over the course of nine book and neither have his characters despite the fact that they're children who have been through multiple traumatic, life-changing events over two to three years. Kids change from week to week and month to month; realistically, none of the characters would stagnate and stay unchanged, completely the same as they were on the first page of the first book (aside from Max becoming increasingly self-centered throughout the books).

Aside from his inability to create believable characters that evolve over time, Patterson's world building is absolutely abysmal and rarely ventures beyond "Itex BAD" and after Itex eliminated, he did practically the same thing to the next evil movements that the Flock came up against. We barely know what their motivations are, we don't really know what they want with the Flock, and there's never a real explanation of how they're going to achieve their incredibly vague goals.

There's absolutely nothing about these books that make me excited anymore and the lack of world building is the top of the list; when I first read these books, I was in fifth grade and I could forgive that the characters were nothing like the other kids and teenagers I knew. I had enough imagination and little real world experience to not care that there were plot holes, absolutely no world building, and that the villains motivations didn't quite add up. I'm older now and I can't forgive the mistakes of these books anymore, especially now that the ninth book of the series has shown that James Patterson still has absolutely no clue how to write a teenage girl.

I have other grievances with the series but it's too much to type out at 10 AM. Bottom line: James Patterson should probably have never written a book about teenagers in the first place.

Great Book!

As the mom to daughters who read above their grade level, I am constantly looking for books that will last them more than a day but will not be over their heads, James Patterson is amazing at this! We all love his books (from ages 13 to 37) and every book he has written has kept us all entertained! The pace is steady and you do not have to worry about being bored because the characters and their situations will keep you on your toes! This )plus many others) will be going on the bookshelf to be re-read...it's that good!

I've read all the Maximum Ride books and I loved it. This last book made me cry. It was really good and the readers will love how Max's journey ends. It would be nice if James Patterson did more.

A "Top 10" for any library for reference time and time again!

As a generally well read person familiar with much in the way of 'wisdom literature,' I was surprised that I'd never heard of this little gem when a client recommended it. Its subtitle is "A Pocket Oracle" and it charmingly lives up to that and more. The book is comprised of 300 'wisdom packets' or 'doses' that are succinctly delivered in short lengths of approximately 9 to 19 lines each. Each one starts with a broad piece of advice followed up by explication. The broad range of topics include such things as proper attitudes to strategies in communication, love, politics and commerce. You can easily benefit by even picking any random page and reading a couple of 'doses' at a time. The books admirers include such luminaries as Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche, the latter of whom attested: "Europe never produced anything finer or more complicated in matters of moral subtlety."
One of the shortest and best of the 300 little 'wisdom packets' is this:
"Know your Major Defect. Every talent is balanced by a fault, and if you give in to it, it will govern you like a tyrant. You can begin to overthrow it by paying heed to it: begin to conquer it by identifying it. Pay it the same attention as those who reproach you for it. To master yourself, you must reflect upon yourself. Once this imperfectio has surrendered, all others will follow."
If you truly appreciate deeper wisdom emanating from astute observation, then you'll find this to be one of the most practical books on your shelf that you're sure to reference time and time again no matter what your station in life.

Should be required reading in every University

This book should be required reading in every University. It provides a lifetime of hard-won knowledge of how the world really works, in the span of a handful of pages. I only wish that I had discovered it in my youth, rather than in my middle years, where its brilliance is something of a cold comfort in light of how many lessons in the school of hard knocks it might have spared me.

Gracian's work is akin to a blog, providing succinct stepping-stones on the path to worldly success. It is brilliantly insightful, and although it is centuries old, the observations and advice remain highly applicable to today. However, reading the book is a bittersweet experience: I found in the various aphorisms painfully obvious evidence of how far we as a species have drifted from earlier love of virtue, respect for the truth, and pursuit of enduring wisdom, and have instead walled ourselves into a prison with bricks of our most base and animalistic motivations, stacked ever higher in our mad rush to pour more electronic digits into our bank accounts, while ignoring the dwindling balances in our souls.

For people who think that religious and educated men of the past were unsophisticated, boorish or otherwise inferior to those of today, a scan through these pages should quickly correct that impression. Thoughtful people of this present age can only aspire to the author's sophistication, eloquence and profound understanding of human nature.

Four stars out of five, not for any failure of this translation or Gracian's overall brilliance, but simply because so much of this treasury of wisdom will be pearls before swine, wasted on a generation taught to value praise over achievement, citizens of a world pursuing information rather than wisdom, where the weight of an infotainment culture in which the mockery of concepts like virtue & truth as either outdated or na�ve is grinding away humanity's natural love of good, noble and transcendent ideals.
