Success in the Midst of Failure

I was given a copy of this book, and I started reading it immediately. Then canvassing happened, and I had to come back to it months later. Overall I found the book encouraging. It talks about finding success in the midst of failure, which we all need, because we all fail at times. Failure is very discouraging, and sometimes we may feel like not getting back up when we fall. However, Dr. Pipim points to the verse that says, "a righteous man may fall 7 times, yet he gets back up." Above all, Dr. Pipim points to the bible for encouragement, citing examples of biblical heroes that fell, yet still got back up and kept trying.

Dr. Pipim does talk about his personal failure, but not so much that it takes away from the main focus of the book. The book is ultimately not about the author's failure, but how one can move on from failure towards success. The author wrote this book to share his insights about going to God when we fall, because ultimately, He's the only one who can pick us up.

I think the only major problem with the book was all the Ellen White quotes. Not because I dislike Ellen White, but I feel like if I want to find quotes from her, I can go read one of her books. At times I could not tell when the quotes ended and where Dr. Pipim's thoughts began. I have not read any of his other books, so I do not know if this is his usual way of writing.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of purchasing it.

Must Read book if you want to succeed.

This is such a timely book from Dr. Pipim. I'm currently reading it and can hardly put it down! Just when I thought I had success all figured out, Dr. Pipim throws a curve ball--- adjusting the lenses through which I define success. He has the audacity to even paint a picture of success--- in the midst of failure! Yes in deed. Thank you for this wonderful work. I'm hoping many of my colleagues will read it too and find inspiration like I'm finding. Thank you sir.

so do not recommend buying this book

Dr. Pipi wrote this book as part of his justification for what he termed a "moral fall" While he publicly admitted to adultery after the victim in Botswana came forward, in fact the wounded party was a 20 year old girl who came to him for counselling. As a 50+year old preacher, Dr. Pipim lured her into his hotel room and, according to the victim, raped her twice.

"The Heaven's Proclaim His Glory" is a very wonderful book. You really need to sit down, read it, and ponder. This book opened my eyes wide to the expanse of the universe. Trying to understand the great size of the universe is always hard, but this book did help. When I read it, I couldn't comprehend the greatest of God's creation, but because I couldn't it caused me worship God. The quotes beside the pictures really aided me in my worshipping. I love the photography in this book; and the Scriptures and quotes were very well chosen. I found this quote by Ann Graham Lotz quite powerful, "If God has the power to create and sustain the universe, how can you or I think His power is insufficient for our daily lives? Nothing is beyond His ability; whether it's a problem to solve, a marriage to reconcile, memory to heal, a guilty conscience to cleanse, a sin to forgive, a business to save, a budget to stretch, another mouth to feed, a body to clothe, a boss to please, a job to find, a habit to break, a captive to free, a prodigal to return, an addiction to overcome, or anything else we could name," How comforting and how true

This book is a compilation of pictures taken by the Hubble Telescope of our universe. Each picture is accompanied by a brief explanation or description of the picture. Along with this is a passage of scripture and a quote that expound on the brilliance and splendor of God's creation. The quality of the book and the pictures are exemplary.

As I was reading the passages and looking at the amazing photographs I was reminded of how small I am in the whole of God's creation. I am truly a spec, on a spec, flying around a spec in the spec of this universe. Especially when we remember that God's hand alone spans the universe. What is man that God is mindful of him? It is amazing grace God would send His Son to die for me alone and that He has a plan for me, a future and a hope. These were some of my thoughts as I was flipping through the pages. I think this is a good book to help you gain perspective and appreciation for the hugeness of God and His awesome power

The Heavens Proclaim His Glory!!

I requested this book because my son loves to look up at the sky at night and tell me how beautiful it is. He will say, "Mom, look at the stars."

This out of this world (pun intended) tabletop book is a beautiful illustration of God's handiwork. It is a page-turner. Each flip of the page is another stunning photograph of the galaxies, stars, planets, polarized light, nebula, black hole, and the changing faces of Pluto. These are just a few of the photographs highlighted in the book. Quotes, scriptural verses, and commentary saturate the book.

I know God created the Universe. I know it's vast and more than I could ever comprehend. I learned quickly how little I really did know after reading this book. I used to think galaxies and all the space stuff was boring. The explanations along with the beautiful photography snapped the boredom away. My attention was held until I looked at every single picture.

This book reminded me of God's magnificent glory. We have our own image of what heaven will be like. I venture to bet we are off the mark. It is more beautiful than we can ever imagine. We have a film over our eyes and one day the film will be removed. We will be unable to speak. We may have to cover our eyes from the blinding beauty. But, then God will adjust our world to meet His and it will be the best reunion that you will ever have. It will be a time that you will wonder why we worried about the things of this earth.

I highly recommend this book. This is one that you will want to keep out ~ on our tabletop for all to see. His magnificent creation should not be missed!

I have just finished the book of Glenn Fabry "Muscles in Motion". The cover of the book was very promising and I thus have pre-order it. I was quite disappointed when I received it. I expected this book to be a kind of step by step guide to draw muscles or at the very least, a book which could teach me a trick or two from a pro. Nada! This book contains quasi no instruction. It's even hard to explain the contents of this book.

They are hundreds of drawings made from freeze-frame images from a videotape. Pages and pages of images of bodybuilders or dancers following each others like a broken down animation. The drawings are too sketchy and small to be a book of references and Fabry doesn't explain anything. I really don't know who would be interested in buying this book but I prefer the more easier approch to figure drawing and muscles from Loomis, Jack Hamm or even Bridgman.

Muscles In Motion

I am a professional artist, and figure drawing is a favorite subject. I have collected many 'how-to" books on figure drawing over the years, and, therefore, have seen many systems of innovative anatomical figure construction. With that said, I must say that Muscles In Motion is a disappointment.

Although there are some quite good individual drawings by the author,Glenn Fabry,the vast majority of the book is drawings from photographs of female bodybuilders in posing or exercise routines. Fabry draws well, but his approach shows little to no

insight into the constructive nature of the figure, which I see as the main reason for purchasing a 'how-to" book on this subject in the first place. Also, I find it strange that the author has used, almost exclusively, female bodybuilders as his prime models for this subject. Yes, men and women do have the same basic muscular system, with the skeletal structure accounting for the greater differences. However, in a treatise on the human muscular system in motion, I feel that using a more traditional approach with the male physique as the primary example would be more appropriate for the subject, while using to a lesser degree,female examples to show the similarities.The female form is absolutely beautiful, but using drawings of the female form in its muscular extreme to illustrate muscular motion in general, I find quite atypical for the subject matter.Had I been able to see an excerpt from this book first, I would not have been interested.

No muscles at all

This was not what I expected. There is no instruction provided as to anatomy or musculature, just many sketches mostly from a female workout tape. The "muscles" were non-descript. Also, if you're considering this for a younger artist, several of the sketches have annotation that they were drawn from a "stripper" tape and are somewhat provocative both in content and "clever quips" as commentary by the artist; inappropriate to my way of thinking. I've returned the book to amazon.com despite having to eat the postage.

A fairly average western, it's just "okay"

Having previously enjoyed several of Margaret Brownley's prior novels, I was anxious to get my hands on "Dawn Comes Early", especially since the desert setting sounded reminiscent of where I grew up. Unfortunately, the book was quite different from my expectations and I ended up being rather disappointed.

The quality of the writing is good, I have no qualms about that--it's just the characters and story that I couldn't connect with. I honestly can't put my finger on exactly what the main issue was, so perhaps it was just many small issues combined. No matter how hard I tried, I simply couldn't relate to the characters, and some of the things they did grated on my nerves. Top of this list would be the storyline revolving around Luke's aunts, which struck me as over-the-top silly.

As for Kate and Luke's relationship, I never felt much chemistry between them. They barely had any interaction before it was obvious feelings were developing, which made their "feelings" somewhat hard for me to believe. While they didn't blatantly seem un-suited as a couple, I just couldn't get excited about the two of them. I think Luke's repetitive thoughts about being un-educated and not good enough for Kate contributed to my feelings. Likewise, Kate's insistence of remaining single didn't scream romance, either. I do have to admit the last couple of chapters had a semi-cute way of bringing them together, but overall I fear Kate and Luke are a mostly forgettable couple for me.

Honestly, the book wasn't "bad"... it just felt a bit flat and fairly average. I normally read books of this length in 5 to 7 days, but this one took me about 10 days, simply because I couldn't keep focused on it. I think it's probably just a case of the reader and book not meshing well, but I have to be honest about my feelings. The good news is that I have already started the second book in the series (Waiting for Morning) and it is much more to my taste. The author hasn't lost her touch, but in my opinion Dawn Comes Early just isn't her strongest offering.

Entertaining Novel About Arizona Territory in the 1890's

I usually do not read Christian romances as they are often not very well-written and sometimes come with a huge dose of (often evangelical) religion, but Thomas Nelson Publishers apparently vets their authors. Nelson seems to concentrate on authors who could be writing in any genre, not just Christian fiction, and who don't overload the reader with pious messages. In other words, the books could appeal to those who attend traditionally mainstream Protestant churches as well as the more evangelical type of denominations.

The plot involves a young woman author, Kate, whose writings have gotten her into trouble so she flees to the west, the Arizona Territory of the 1890's. There she agrees to take over a ranch owned by an older woman who will deed the ranch to her if Kate agrees to never marry. Having had bad relationships with men in the past, Kate is ready to put her name on the dotted line until she spys a local blacksmith.... Kate finds that the ranch is hard work (dawn does indeed come early!) and begins to question some of her previous assumptions about life and men. One reviewer mentioned as a negative that the couple shared a passionate kiss -- since this is a book about human beings falling in love as it is about anything else, I was amazed that anyone could be offended by a kiss. So, if kissing offends you be warned that there is one kissing scene in the book! With entertaining secondary characters and an appealing heroine and hero, this novel should sell even to those outside the traditional inspirational book market. The publisher also puts very attractive covers on their books and this is no exception. Buy it for the cover, read it for the quality!

Good but not fabulous

This is a good reading book, not real deep but I would definitely call it good.

Kate Tenney has lost her confidence when her latest book has been banned in Boston. She, who took care of an alcoholic mother keeps hearing all the things that her mother told her about how unworthy she was.This was also backed up by the fact that where she got her education she had to work for it as basically a cleaning girl, and the other girls taunted her. So, her self-esteem is at an all-time low.

Then she reads an advertisement in the paper stating that a Miss Eleanor Walker is looking for an heiress to take over her ranch. She just has to prove herself and sign a legal document stating that she will never marry. Kate never expects to marry, so she doesn't feel like this will be an issue. But could it be, after all she writes Dime novels and her last one was labeled as too racy ... hmmm .. another complication is Luke Adams, the blacksmith .. now where does he fit into the picture?

Of course, her running the ranch and gaining the trust and the respect of the other cowhands will be interesting as she has the hardest time even sitting on a darn horse. The humor that is added in this book is cute, which does add to the interest in it .. then there is Cactus Joe .. who really wants to be as famous as Jesse James or Billy the Kid, but is not very effective as a bad guy, add to that mix a totally inadequate sheriff and you have a cute story.

I think it definitely could have had more depth which would have made it a better book, but I did enjoy it ... I have been reading a ton of dark, depressing books so this was a good break from those and I certainly appreciated it, although it was a far distance from one of my more favorite books. I would say if you are looking for a cute, easy reading good book .. then this could be the book for you.

About the Author
Mark Griep is a chemistry professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studies the function of the enzymes that duplicate DNA in bacteria. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Dr. Griep received a Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and was twice elected to serve as the Chair of the Nebraska Section of the American Chemical Society. He has been studying his family history since age 13 and was delighted to be able to begin investigating Marjorie's family history after they were married. Marjorie Mikasen is a geometric painter who has exhibited her work nationally and internationally; awards include an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Nebraska Arts Council and the Lincoln Mayor's Arts Award for Artistic Achievement in the Visual Arts. Her work is in public and private collections including the Sheldon Museum of Art. Mikasen was able to whistle from an early age and likes to think her ancestor Joseph Maffre had the same ability.

For those interested in the musical life of mid-1800s Montreal, a new book has recently appeared filling a gap in the history of the city. Authors
and spouses, Marjorie Mikasen and Mark Griep, have written "Joseph Maffre: Master of the Band". Their book delves into Maffre's life with a
particular focus on his years in Montreal between 1838 and 1849 as a prominent musician and composer in Montreal.

Joseph and his parents fled their country of birth - France, for England where the young man first developed his musical talents before coming to
Canada as the Master of the Band of the 71st Regiment. This was early in the evolution of British military bands and masters from the Continent were much preferred to British-borne musicians.

Maffre arrived in a diverse city open to musical entertainment where musical and choral concerts were an important social activity and where the
citizenry was keen to take music lessons. This fledgling musical life was significantly nourished by military bands. The authors have found many examples of newspaper ads about forth-coming concerts in city churches and halls where the 71st Regiment's band, under Maffre's leadership, often played.

Upon leaving the army, Maffre continued as a band leader, but he also returned to composing, publishing and teaching music. With his French
roots, it's not surprising that his compositions - often quadrilles, reflected music and dancing styles from his homeland as well as being inspired by his Canadian experience. Both in his religious practices within the family and in his musical activities, he clearly moved between Montreal's Catholic and Protestant and English and French communities in providing entertainment for the citizens.

Maffre and his English-born wife, Lucy, had ten children - some of whom followed their Father into a musical life in Montreal and environs. Joseph
and Lucy passed away within days of one another during the Montreal cholera epidemic of 1849.

Mikasen - a distant relation to Maffre, and Griep devoted spare time and holidays over twenty-five years to researching this book - and this
commitment and diligence show. My teacher uses the same figures and tables as in the book, which are easily readable/understandable especially when you think of each process as steps.
